COACHING LOGISTICS

Our coaching will begin either after a free 30-minute sample session or after a personal interview (either face-to-face or by telephone call) to look at your current opportunities and the challenges you are facing, define the possibilities of our relationship,  identify your priorities for action, and establish what your preferred outcomes are.

Coaching by Phone?

Our second and subsequent meetings will be conducted by telephone, with each session lasting a previously established length of time (usually 30-45 minutes).

When I first started with my coach (sure, I have a coach!  I think everyone should have a coach!) I was skeptical about the effectiveness of a coach (a voice) at the end of the phone line.  Now, I can’t imagine it any other way!

Coaching by phone is very efficient for us both; you can attend our coaching call without having to travel to see me. You can be coached in your office or a conference room at work; you can be coached while at home, or even while you’re travelling!  I think you’ll find our coaching calls provide you with a wonderful private space wherever you are and you’ll love that!

Most people who hire coaches are already very busy so this time savings is important.  Phone coaching tends to be quite focused and productive!

If you are still wondering if coaching by phone is effective, the best way to find out is to try a free 30 minute coaching session and see for yourself!

Building our Alliance

After you’ve decided you would like to move forward with coaching, you and I will design what we call an “alliance”.  I will email you:

  • a Coaching Agreement (with all the details) that we both sign;
  • a questionnaire for you to complete (this helps me know more about you and what you might like to work on with me); and,
  • perhaps a fun exercise or two to help us get started!

We will also schedule what is called a 'discovery' or ‘foundation’ session which is 90-120 minutes.

The foundation session is for us to talk about where you are hoping to go, what your values are, what matters to you, what your goals are for coaching and what we want to create as a coaching arrangement that meets your needs and your schedule.

Our coaching sessions

Remember that this coaching is all about you!  You set the agenda for each call/meeting.  My role is to ask you questions, listen to you, provide experiential activities and challenge you.   I will also hold you accountable to yourself for actions you are choosing in your move forward in life!

Our coaching calls/meetings will always be private and confidential!  As a member of the ICF, I adhere to a strict code of ethics surrounding my practice.  [ ICF Code of Ethics ]

Coaching is not therapy!  We will spend plenty of time on your present (what’s going on right now!) and will always be focused on your future.  The only time we visit your past is when it might serve you to do so.

Although I usually coach by phone 2-3 times a month for 45 minutes, we can discuss variations on this to best suit your needs.

Between scheduled coaching sessions, I may ask you to undertake specific actions that support achieving your goals.   Part of my coaching is to help you move toward taking action and that may include helping you hold yourself accountable!

How long will we work together?

Since coaching is a learning process and a journey, I ask you to commit to a minimum of three months.  After the initial three months you may find that you are enjoying the journey and are eager to continue to learn and grow, in which case we will renew our agreement and continue!  Of course if, at any time during the initial three months, you find you do not want to continue then by all means we would arrange for that.

By the way...... Do you pay US taxes?  Here’s a financial advantage for you!

Did you know that coaching undertaken to enhance your existing job or business is TAX DEDUCTIBLE?

In the U.S., all expenses of continuing education undertaken to maintain and improve business and professional skills are tax deductible. (Treas.Reg.1-162-5, Coughlin vs. Commissioner, 203F 2d 307).

Coaching fees are declared either under Schedule C (for self-owned businesses) or Schedule A (for those employed by others). If you use Schedule A, coaching would be included on Line 20 and is subject to an exclusion of 2% of your adjusted gross income.

Consult your tax advisor for further details.
